'LEARN TO IMPROVISE: JAZZ PIANO', AN EXCITING NEW RESOURCE FOR TEACHERS AND LEARNERS

A method book, teaching piano students to improvise, within the field of Jazz. It is aimed primarily at students with a basic technical control of the instrument and some pre-existing musical knowledge, but no previous experience of improvising. It is also designed for piano teachers who are good reading musicians but not improvisers, and who wish to gain the necessary skills to teach the subject. It is designed with the requirements of the ABRSM Grade 1 Jazz Piano exam in mind, equipping the student with the necessary knowledge and skills to approach all of the elements of the exam.

The book aims to provide a holistic approach to learning, presented in an absolute step-by-step format. This enables both student and teacher to fully understand and engage in the process of learning, in a way that is at once rigorous, progressive and enjoyable. It concerns itself both with imparting knowledge and encouraging the student to develop their own creative voice from the outset, elements which are fully intergrated into the text.
